In adult ruminants, optimal stomach function, particularly in the forestomachs (including the rumen), is essential for efficient nutrient utilisation, animal productivity, and reducing environmental impact. Stomach disorders, such as rumen acidosis or ketosis, are common in dairy, rearing, and fattening cattle. These conditions can result in reduced appetite and performance, and in severe cases, may lead to death if untreated.

Dual-action oregano oil for ruminants
DOSTO® Ruminant Bi-active combines encapsulated and non-encapsulated oregano oil and is designed specifically for ruminants. The encapsulated form allows part of the oregano oil to bypass the rumen and act in the small intestine, enhancing its dual effectiveness. This unique characteristic is why it is named “bi-active.” The essential oregano oil is extracted using water steam distillation from the Origanum vulgare subsp. hirtum, variety Vulcano, a plant specially selected for Dostofarm for its high quality and potency. The natural oregano oil contains a mixture of various effective components, offering a broader range of benefits compared to synthetic alternatives, which usually consist of only one or two active components (such as carvacrol).

It promotes optimal fibre digestibility, enhances the production of volatile fatty acids in the rumen, and offers targeted release of active ingredients in the intestine. Mode of action
DOSTO® Ruminant Bi-active stimulates appetite and improves feed intake by acting directly in the rumen. The non-encapsulated part of the oregano oil enhances the rumen environment by improving fibre digestibility and increasing the production of volatile fatty acids. These fatty acids are essential for energy production, contributing to better overall feed utilisation and improved animal performance.
The product also increases milk yield and enhances milk components such as fat and protein. This is achieved through its dual-action mechanism, where the encapsulated oregano oil bypasses the rumen and is released in the intestine. Once there, the fat matrix encapsulation is dissolved by lipases, allowing the oregano oil to be absorbed, which improves efficient nutrient uptake and metabolism.
In addition to boosting milk production, DOSTO® Ruminant Bi-active supports metabolic health and contributes to a healthy udder by reducing the somatic cell count, which is essential for maintaining milk quality.
