Animals need consistent gut health to maximise productivity. Many yeast products on the market aim to improve gut health and production efficiency in animals. However, their effects vary significantly due to differences in production processes, solubility, molecular size, and other physical properties.
A patented postbiotic yeast hydrolysate for enhanced gut health and efficacy
Progut® Extra is the original patented postbiotic yeast hydrolysate derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Utilising a circular economy approach, it is produced through acid hydrolysis, which transforms cell wall components into bioactive forms. The reduced molecular size and enhanced solubility of Progut® Extra increase its interaction with rumen and intestinal bacteria as well as immune cells in the gut, ensuring superior efficacy.
Excellent efficacy in reducing harmful bacteria and supporting animal health
Thanks to the increased bioactive compounds from the hydrolysis process, Progut® Extra contains higher levels of mannoproteins, B-glucans, chitin, and nucleotides. This gives Progut® Extra outstanding efficacy in reducing the attachment of harmful bacteria like E. coli and salmonella to gut mucus, supporting immune development and gut health in young animals, and improving productivity. In dairy cows, Progut® Extra enhances rumen fermentation, leading to increased milk yield and better feed efficiency.
Mode of action
Progut® Extra contains a rich concentration of bioactive molecular structures, including manno-oligosaccharides, betaglucans, nucleotides, and peptides. These components have various functions within the gut and rumen. They bind to harmful bacteria like E. coli and salmonella, for example, limiting their growth and helping to maintain a healthy gut environment. Additionally, they positively influence the microbiota, promoting a balance of beneficial bacteria, which is essential for overall gut health.
The bioactive molecules in Progut® Extra play a critical role in enhancing intestinal health. They are recognised by immune cell receptors in the gut, triggering an increase in chemo-attractant (IP10) production. This brings more immune cells to the gut epithelium, effectively “training” the immune system to respond more efficiently to future challenges. As a result, the immune response is improved, and colostrum in dairy cows shows increased IgA levels. In the rumen, these bioactive structures compete with rumen bacteria, stimulating their growth and activity, which leads to improved rumen fermentation, better digestion, and enhanced overall performance in different animal species.

APPLICATION
- Progut® Extra can be incorporated into both feed and milk products with the following recommended dosages:
- Calves: 0.5–1.5 kg/t of feed
- Dairy cows: 5–15 gram per animal per day
- Sheep and goats: 0.5–1.5 gram per animal per day
- Beef cattle: 4–7 gram per animal per day
- Horses: 5–10 gram per animal per day
- For farm use, a diluted version called ProRumen is available for ease of application
