Weaning challenges and long-term effects on piglet growth
Weaning is a major challenge on pig farms, causing stress from a new environment and diet change while the piglet’s gut is still developing. This “weaning dip” often leads to reduced feed intake, diarrhoea, and impaired growth, with effects lasting until slaughter.
Supporting piglets through the weaning challenge
Terragut is a unique blend of rare earth elements, specifically the lanthanides cerium and lanthanum, formulated to support piglets during the critical phase of weaning in multiple ways. The product is EFSA approved for weaned piglets.
Supporting gut health and performance during weaning
Terragut promotes the growth of beneficial gut bacteria while inhibiting pathogenic bacteria, and thus supports a healthy gut ecology. It also enhances nutrient absorption, helping to maintain proper faecal consistency, improving feed conversion, and increasing growth. As a result, animals perform better during the weaning dip.
Mode of action
Terragut enhances nutrient absorption, leading to better feed efficiency and supported growth. By supporting gut integrity and reducing pathogenic bacteria, more piglets have the preferred faecal consistency and an improved overall performance during the weaning period. By optimising nutrient uptake, Terragut ensures piglets get the maximum benefit from their feed. Terragut can be continued to be fed during the rearing period, significantly improving feed conversion ratio.
Terragut stimulates the growth of beneficial bacteria like Lactobacilli while inhibiting pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli. This dual action contributes to a healthier gut environment. Terragut also has a potent antimicrobial effect, comparable to copper and zinc oxide

- Suitable for piglets from weaning up to 25 kg
- Recommended dosage 263 g/t feed (conform the legal amount of 250 mg/t lanthanidecitrate), ensuring optimal benefits
- Available in concentrated powder form for easy mixing into feed
