Sucrose, commonly known as sugar, plays an important role in animal feed as both a natural sweetener and an energy source. Crystal sugar is primarily used in feeds for piglets during the first week post-weaning, enhancing the flavour and making the feed more palatable compared to alternatives like dextrose and lactose. It also provides a valuable energy boost for young piglets. Additionally, sucrose is sometimes fed to sows between weaning and mating to support fertility.
