Progres®
SUPPORTING GUT INTEGRITY AND MICROBIOTA BALANCE
Progres® consists of resin acids, the liquid gold from the Finnish forest to boost animal performance and well-being. This unique, natural product uses the protection mechanisms of coniferous trees in supporting intestinal integrity by reducing inflammation and reducing enzymatic breakdown of collagen in epithelial tissue.
- Helps maintain intestinal integrity
- Contributes to a positive development of microbiota
- Demonstrates strong efficacy in inhibiting Gram-positive pathogens in vitro
SUPPORTING HEALTH BY IMPROVING GUT INTEGRITY AND REDUCING HARMFUL BACTERIA
The impact of compromised gut integrity on animal health and performance
In both livestock and companion animals, including horses, gut integrity is frequently compromised due to changing conditions and stressors. Damage to the intestinal villi and/or lining negatively impacts gut health and function, which reduces the animal’s ability to absorb nutrients efficiently. As a result, their natural defences are weakened, leading to decreased overall performance.
Harnessing antimicrobial properties of Finnish pine for animal health
Progres® is a unique, natural product made from resin acids and tall oil fatty acids, derived from Finnish pine trees. These trees use resin acids as part of their natural defence mechanism due to their antimicrobial properties. For decades, the Finns have utilised these same resin acids in traditional human medicine for their ability to combat microbes. Studies show that these beneficial effects extend to animals as well and promote health and well-being.
Reducing collagen breakdown and Gram-positive bacteria to ensure gut integrity
Collagen plays a crucial role in the intestinal matrix, supporting the structure of intestinal epithelia. Progres® works by reducing the enzymatic breakdown of collagen, ensuring gut integrity. It also reduces Gram-positive bacteria levels. Progres® works independently of microbiota composition or internal/external factors.
Mode of action
Progres® helps maintain the structure of intestinal epithelial tissue by reducing the enzymatic breakdown of collagen. This supports gut integrity, which is essential for an optimal gut function. By inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which break down collagen during inflammatory responses, collagen is not degraded in intestinal tissues.
By promoting a stable intestinal environment and metabolism, Progres® indirectly supports the positive development of microbiota. While it doesn’t directly affect microbiota composition, maintaining intestinal integrity provides a supportive environment for beneficial microorganisms.
In vitro, Progres® has shown to effectively inhibit Gram-positive bacteria by disrupting ion exchange in their cell walls. This antimicrobial property supports the gut’s natural defences against harmful pathogens.
